Annual Report for 2007 launched at Stakeholder Meeting

Annual Report 2007 cover The NC3Rs Annual Report for 2007 was launched at the Centre's Stakeholder Meeting on 16 January.

The report, entitled 'Collaboration and Innovation' , highlights the achievements of the past 12 months.

Key successes for the year include increased funding for the 3Rs research, increased income for the Centre, and new initiatives with the chemical industry.

Submissions for main funding scheme by 13 February 2008

Second joint meeting with the Biosciences Federation

Drosphila melanogaster Credit: AkaThe NC3Rs, in partnership with the Biosciences Federation Animal Sciences Group, is hosting a one-day symposium entitled 'The 3Rs: from fundamentals to application' to highlight the scientific and technological advances which have implications for the 3Rs and how they can facilitate improved scientific data and better animal welfare.

The symposium, which is on 19 March 2008 in London, is free to all members of the learned societies and professional bodies affiliated to the Biosciences Federation.

The closing date for registration is 25 February 2008.

Use of thousands of animals avoided as test proved redundant

Bilharzia research wins 3Rs Prize

Charlotte Gower - 3Rs PrizewinnerThe third annual 3Rs Prize has been awarded to Dr Charlotte Gower of Imperial College London.

The GlaxoSmithKline-sponsored prize of £10k was presented by Minister for Science and Innovation, Ian Pearson MP, for Dr Gower's work on replacing the use of rodents in the study of schistosomes, the worm-like parasites that cause bilharzia.

Due to a strong field of entries, a Highly Commended prize of £1k was awarded to Dr John Doe of Syngenta.
