The NC3Rs invites grant applications from UK establishments for research which will advance knowledge and application of the 3Rs and laboratory animal welfare.
Deadline
The deadline for submitting an application to the 2010 competition has now passed.
All grant applications submitted to this competition must start by 1 November 2010.
Points to consider
Proposals relevant to any area of medical, biological or veterinary research or testing can be considered and applications that integrate a range of disciplines are welcomed
Applicants are encouraged to outline the potential benefits of the proposed work in both scientific and 3Rs terms
It is important to provide measures of impact, for example, an estimate of the reduction in the number of animals used, or objective indicators of how animal welfare has improved
If the proposal presents an alternative non-animal model, describe what scientific advantages it could have over in vivo methods
Assessment will take account of the applicants' strategy for promoting the proposed research to their scientific peers, for example through publications and presentations at scientific conferences.
A grant may be awarded for any period of up to 3 years. The financial support requested should be tailored by the scientific needs of the proposal.
Requests for funding can include:
The salary of the Principal Investigator and co-investigators for up to 3 years
Support for additional research, technical or other posts
Consumables
Equipment
Travel costs
Data archiving, data sharing and dissemination costs
Submitting applications
In line with the Research Councils, applications should be submitted under the Full Economic Costing (FEC) model. For practical reasons the NC3Rs uses the MRC electronic application and assessment system.
