2012 NC3Rs Primate Welfare Meeting - Primate training workshop: meet the trainers

Monday 19 November 2012 10:00 to 17:30
Central London (Zone 1)

In 2012 we changed our Primate Welfare Meeting from the usual symposium format and instead hosted two separate, 1-day, focused workshops.

The first workshop, held on Monday 19 November, was co-organised with Huntingdon Life Sciences. The aim was to share information on the problems encountered when training non-human primates for co-operation with husbandry and scientific procedures, and the potential solutions to these.

The workshop built on previous NC3Rs work in this area and the IAT/University of Stirling CPD course on primate training that ran until 2010. It provided opportunities for staff familiar with the basics of operant conditioning theory and already training primates to share their experiences and to meet with experienced trainers to get practical advice on how to overcome common problems and keep their training programmes on track. In addition to presentations and posters, there were problem-solving surgeries and networking opportunities.

The delegate handbook, with the programme and presentation and poster abstracts, is given below.
