2014 Primate Welfare Meeting – Assessing and improving nonhuman primate welfare: new approaches from the UK

The 2014 NC3Rs Primate Welfare Meeting will be held on 17 October 2014 as part of the annual workshop of the Association of Primate Veterinarians (APV), San Antonio, Texas, USA. The workshop is open to APV members and associates. For more information and to register, see the APV website.

This year's strategic alliance with APV aims to share new research findings and best practice internationally to improve primate welfare.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Dr Mark Prescott, NC3Rs - The NC3Rs: leading application of the 3Rs in non-human primate research
  • Dr Matt Leach, Newcastle University - Assessing pain in macaques using facial expressions
  • Professor Melissa Bateson, Newcastle University - Assessing cumulative severity / the long-term impact of neuroscience research procedures in macaques 
  • Dr Michelle Nelson, DSTL (Defence Science and Technology Laboratory) - Humane endpoints and refinement of procedures in non-human primate infectious disease models
