Rodent welfare related research projects

We fund the development of new 3Rs approaches and technologies through project grants. Examples of project grants related to rodent welfare are described below.

An automated judgement bias test to assess the affective state of laboratory rodents.
A touchscreen assay to replace the higher-severity behavioural assays used to assess rodent emotion and motivation.
Developing a refined model of pulmonary embolism which avoids the suffering associated with the use of death as an endpoint.
Developing more sensitive, less invasive methods to assess symptoms of fatigue in models of chronic liver disease.
Development of a task to test forms of complex memory in spontaneous rodent tasks.
