Professor Stephen Holgate CBE, University of Southampton, will step down as Board Chair in December 2019. We are seeking a successor to lead the NC3Rs Board for the next three years. This is an opportunity to help shape the strategy of the NC3Rs and promote the UK’s position as a world leader in 3Rs research and development.

The NC3Rs is a leading scientific organisation dedicated to replacing, refining and reducing the use of animals in research and testing (the 3Rs). We use the 3Rs to accelerate scientific discovery, support innovation and technology development and address societal concerns about animal research. We achieve this by:
We are a government-backed organisation with core funding provided via the Medical Research Council (MRC) and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), which in turn are part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). We have an annual budget of around £10 million.
Candidates will bring leadership experience with a distinguished international research track record. A vision of the priorities and opportunities for the 3Rs across the biosciences is essential.
Candidates should be able to commit ten days a year to NC3Rs business and should have the permission and support of their employer.
