NC3Rs | 20 Years: Pioneering Better Science

Funding for cardiovascular research

The NC3Rs funds cardiovascular research projects which support the development and dissemination of cardiovascular models. This includes a long standing collaboration with the British Heart Foundation (BHF), where we have jointly funded 16 PhD studentships since 2015. These awards support the application of the 3Rs in cardiovascular science while investing in the training of excellent early career researchers and span a range of 3Rs approaches including in vitro and in silico replacement approaches and partial replacements including non-protected immature forms of vertebrates.

The funding schemes below may be of interest to cardiovascular researchers:

  • NC3Rs funding schemes support 3Rs research and innovation and the transfer of 3Rs approaches between laboratories. The Project grant scheme supports the development of new cardiovascular 3Rs approaches and technologies. Studentships embed the 3Rs in the training of graduate scientists.
  • The BHF provide personal support for clinical and non-clinical cardiovascular researchers at all stages of their career and offer grants for short and long term research projects, essential infrastructure and strategic awards. The BHF research portfolio provides examples of the types of projects funded by the organisation.
  • Heart Research UK is a National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) non-commercial Partner which funds research into the prevention, treatment and cure of heart disease. Funding schemes include Novel and Emerging Technologies (NET) grants which focus on the development of new and innovative technologies, Studentships and Translational Research Project grants which aim to bring about patient benefit as soon as possible.
  • The UKRI funding finder can be used to find suitable funding opportunities across the research councils.
